Kyle Makes A Big Announcement

Today I’m making a big announcement.

Frankly, it’s a little scary, because I’ve never done anything of this magnitude before. Announcing this to the world is going to publicly commit me to doing a LOT of work over an extended amount of time.

But I’m excited about it.

Here’s the announcement:

For the next year, once every weekday, I will share something I’ve made on this blog.

That’s right: five times a week, for the next 365 days, I will share a new thing that I’ve made.

That could be a painting, an illustration, a sculpture… It could be a piece of furniture, or a song, or a giant cardboard mask … it could be something practical, or something purely decorative…. it could be physical or digital, or maybe even a combination of both.

Why am I doing this?

Several reasons:

First, I love making things .

And recently, it seems that whenever I share the things I’ve made, people like it. Sometimes they even get inspired to go make things of their own! And since I love making things, and other people love it when I make things, it’s only makes sense that I should step up my making-things efforts.

Second, I want to get better at making things .

And the best way to get better at something is to practice, practice, practice. I’m envisioning this year as a sort of creative pressure-cooker, a boot camp of sorts, an experience that will ramp up my skills as a maker-of-things faster than I would be able to do otherwise.

Last but not least, I want to explore the creative process.

And I want to do that exploration publicly, on this blog. I want to see what happens when a free-spirited creative type like myself is forced to create on demand, on a schedule. I want to see what happens when I run out of ideas and I’m still forced to come up with something. I want to see how my skills, style, and voice evolve over time. And I want to share everything I learn with you guys.

So while I’ll be sharing things I’ve made every weekday, I’ll also be sharing a lot more: my thoughts on the creative process, helpful tips and tricks, things I’ve learned, sources of inspiration, and more.

I’d love it if you’d join me.

There are three ways I could use your help:

1. Sign up for the newsletter. Once a week I’ll be sending out a newsletter full of things that inspire me, things I’ve learned, and things I’ve made. I’ll keep it short, sweet, and to the point, but I’ll also keep it chock-full of good content. To sign up, you can click here or just look over on the right-hand side of this page at the top for the signup form.

2. Share this page with your friends.

There’s an easy facebook share button at the top and bottom of each post. If you like something you see here, don’t keep it to yourself! Share it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or wherever else people share cool things.

3. Keep checking back.

Like I said, I’ll be posting new stuff every single weekday. So bookmark this page, or leave a tab open, or make a post-it note to remind yourself to check back in every so often. Even if you just check in once a week, there will be five new things I’ve made to check out.
